3D Scanning, Photogrammetry & Drone Capture

Northamptonshire & UK Wide

At 3DPrintWell we go well beyond conventional 3D scanning. Our capture service combines structured-light and photogrammetry techniques with drone aerial photography and cutting-edge Gaussian splatting to produce accurate, workable digital representations of objects, buildings, sites, and environments — at any scale.

Whether you need a precise mesh of a small mechanical component or a fully navigable 3D model of an entire building exterior, we have the equipment and the expertise to capture it.

Photogrammetry

Photogrammetry works by processing a large set of overlapping photographs to reconstruct the geometry and surface texture of a subject as a 3D model. It is one of the most versatile capture methods available — effective on everything from small products and heritage objects to vehicles, interiors, and full building facades.

Our photogrammetry workflow produces clean, high-resolution mesh files suitable for 3D printing, reverse engineering, CGI and visual effects pipelines, BIM integration, archival documentation, and game or simulation asset creation. Every model is delivered in the format your workflow requires — OBJ, FBX, STL, GLB, or others on request.

Photogrammetry is particularly well suited to subjects with rich surface texture and complex organic geometry, where traditional CAD modelling would be time-consuming or impossible. We have used it to digitise everything from industrial machine parts for reverse engineering to sculptural artworks for archival and reproduction purposes.

Drone Photography and Aerial Capture

For large-scale subjects — building exteriors, construction sites, land parcels, architectural structures, or any environment too large to capture from ground level — we offer drone-based aerial photogrammetry. Our drone capture workflow acquires the overlapping imagery needed to reconstruct accurate 3D models of entire sites from above and at oblique angles, covering geometry that ground-based photography simply cannot reach.

The outputs are the same high-quality mesh and point cloud files as our ground-based photogrammetry service, but with coverage that scales to the full footprint of a site. Drone capture is increasingly used in construction monitoring, heritage recording, insurance assessment, real estate marketing, and urban planning — and we bring the same precision to each application.

All drone operations are conducted in compliance with UK CAA regulations.

Gaussian Splatting

Gaussian splatting is one of the most significant advances in 3D capture of recent years, and we are one of the few UK services currently offering it commercially. Where traditional photogrammetry produces a polygon mesh, Gaussian splatting represents a scene as a dense field of overlapping 3D Gaussians — ellipsoidal primitives that together reconstruct photorealistic appearance and lighting with a fidelity that mesh-based methods cannot match.

The results are stunning. Gaussian splat captures retain the fine detail of translucent materials, complex reflections, soft shadows, and subtle surface variation that are typically lost or approximated in mesh reconstruction. They are navigable in real time in a browser or VR headset, making them ideal for immersive presentation, virtual walkthroughs, digital twins, and high-fidelity archival records.

Gaussian splatting works exceptionally well combined with drone capture — aerial splat captures of buildings and sites produce immersive, photorealistic environments that are directly explorable without requiring specialist software on the viewer's end.

What We Deliver

Depending on your project requirements, outputs from our capture service include clean polygon meshes, point clouds, textured OBJ or FBX files ready for your pipeline, STL files optimised for 3D printing, Gaussian splat files viewable in a browser, and full aerial orthomosaics from drone survey work. We are happy to discuss the right output format for your specific use case before we begin.

Who Uses This Service

We work with engineers needing reverse-engineered geometry, architects and developers documenting sites and structures, product designers capturing reference geometry, film and games studios building digital assets, heritage organisations creating archival records, and businesses wanting immersive 3D presentations of their premises or products.

Based in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, we serve clients locally and travel for larger site capture projects across the UK.
